ITT & ECF

ITT: The Roseland Trust is a lead school for School Direct programme with Cornwall SCITT. We also collaborate with other ITT providers. As a trainee teacher you would follow our professional studies programme and also you will access all the staff training opportunities whilst on the placement within The Roseland Trust.
For more information about the ITT provision, click Train to Teach.

ECF: As an Early Career Teacher you will access the full induction programme directly with us, as we are a designated teaching school hub, through our chosen provider, Teach First. Our provision is regionally and locally coordinated. In addition, we enhance the ECF provision by further strengthening the collaboration across the trust between the ECTs, Mentors and Induction Leads and seek to share good practice, provide well-being opportunities and build strong relationships.

Colleague Testimonies:

“During my term placement at The Roseland Academy, I have been made to feel like a valued member of the school community from the minute I joined. I have been well supported throughout my training, not only by my subject mentor who gave me constructive feedback from all my teaching sessions but also by all members of staff. Everyone at Roseland is very friendly and this can be seen by the school having a strong community feeling, with everyone willing to support one another. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time training at Roseland and will be sad to leave the school.”

ITT Trainee/Student Teacher

“During my ITT course I was fortunate to experience a term within the MAT and in 2019 as an RQT I was appointed here. Opportunities such as shared departmental meetings across the MAT, staff meetings across the trust, and leadership courses has allowed me to collaborate and network with other professionals across the MAT. In my third teaching year I was able to take part in and complete the Middle Leadership course, where I was able to collaborate and share ideas with like minded professionals in multiple sessions run by leaders within the MAT. Since beginning my fourth teaching year I have now been appointed as a middle leader. Being part of the MAT has supported my teaching practice and leadership development and embedding fundamentals in the journey to becoming a successful leader.”

Middle Leader on Trust Collaboration
“I have significantly developed my practice through working collaboratively across the Roseland MAT through our joined approaches within many aspects including teaching and learning through the teaching and learning forum and teaching and learning bites. I have also been incredibly fortunate to visit another school within our trust to share good practice and magpie fantastic ideas to continue driving our school forward. I have established fantastic relationships with my counterparts from our MAT secondary schools, in addition to colleagues within teaching and learning and senior leaders which has allowed us to collaborate and discuss core concepts and ideas.”

Quotes from the Middle Leadership Programme:

“It was the first session that got me looking at things differently. I have approached the tasks with all the different skills of leadership in mind. I think it has made me think about different approaches to what I had a vision for. It has also given me the confidence to move forward. I liked the different speakers as it gave a range of different perspectives as they had different roles and responsibilities. They each gave a slightly different approach to leadership and management.”

“I have enjoyed the course, I think different members of staff presenting and leading the sessions each week gave us a wider view of different aspects/characteristics of being a leader.”

Colleague B

“My favourite session 2 – I think there were several key points that have stuck with me that you would maybe overlook in a leadership role (example set allocation and considering behaviour management that could affect your lesson). I would recommend this to others, it really allows you to reflect on your current skill set and gives me ideas of where/how to develop in the future! THANK YOU to everyone that supported/helped run their sessions and share their ideas!”

Colleague C

“I have enjoyed the course, it’s nice to talk to people in the same position a me and listen to the struggles/successes they have had. It is also interesting to see other people develop in different roles. The course will help me implement my ideas with more confidence moving forward. It has also made me focus on what outcomes I hope to achieve and how to achieve them. It has been very well planned with all the resources set up and ready to go. Speakers have done different sessions and they all knew exactly what they wanted to go through. The recordings are a good idea as I had to miss a session. I was able to go through what I missed and not suffer as a consequence.”

Colleague D

“I have really enjoyed the course, and having the variety of presenters, as it gave different perspectives and styles of leadership. I particularly enjoyed Session 3, as I am conscious I need to improve my modelling, instead of just doing it for people! I also found it useful to complete the leadership characteristics, as my colleagues have identified qualities I didn’t think I had. I would recommend the course to aspiring leaders and even RQTs as it gives an understanding of what is expected. The planning and delivery of the content has been fantastic, thank you.”
